Move in weekend went pretty well. I wanted to get to DC early to get settled before starting classes. My mom and sis stayed with me in my new apartment and my dad with my brother. We all went out to breakfast together the next morning, and my dad and I had a blast annoying everyone with the jukebox. I was hoping to start rowing before classes start, but unfortunately I don't think that's going to be possible. Can't have everything. Oh well. I got in touch with the PBC coach who is going to take me out in the launch on Monday morning! Excited but nervous. Those seem to be two very popular emotions recently for me. I don't know if he wants to give me a feel for the program before starting rowing. I don't know if this is a test to see if he likes me enough to let me row with the team. I don't know if he is going to say I'm too slow and I should look elsewhere or for another team on at the same club. I don't know if he is going to give me a few weeks to prove myself. I just don't know. And I like to know. So we will see how Monday goes, and I'll keep you posted. Other than not getting very far on the rowing front, I am trying to be a financially independent millennial and went to the bank to talk finances with the lovely people there. *Snaps for Emma* To reward myself, I stopped by Georgetown Cupcake since there was no line. Take a look at this beaut! On the grad school front, I met some of the people in my lovely cohort of Spanish linguists along with some of the 3rd years who took us all out to a bar. Nervous but excited to classes to start (told you they were popular emotions), but I'm feeling slightly more at ease after meeting everyone. Such. Nice. People. I really like them all already. I've also been able to hang out with one of my old college roomies, Jack. He's in town until he moves to Baltimore for a new job, so it's been really great to catch up with him.
Sean was really nice and brought me out to breakfast at a place called Emissary. We both got egg sandwiches without avocado (because we aren't basic enough for that - jk, I just think I had my fill of avocado while in Chile...it's been 3 years and I'm still not ready to eat it again). They were simple, but sooooo yummy! My mom would loved this place. We washed our egg sandwiches down with a chai latte for me and a drip coffee for Sean while discussing my hatred for all things coffee and coffee flavored (I don't even know what a drip coffee is). Then we walked around Dupont Circle and back to my place to hang out and bake pretzel-caramel-peanut butter brownies. So glad I am getting some quality bro time after being apart for so long.

Got to play catch up and dress up with these lovely ladies. We were treated to our favorite tea place accompanied by some A+ company in preparation for little Lanie going back to college and me moving to DC.

AuthorI'm Emma. I love food more than anyone will ever understand - specifically cheese, chocolate, bread and pretty much every fat & carb combo you can think of - apple cider donuts, ice cream, the list goes on. Fats and carbs just go so well together. Don't you think? Why is it that when I'm tasked to describe myself, I always talk about food? Anywho, I'm a grad student and rower training studying and training in DC. Here's to having no free time and loving every minute of it (jk...I'll tell you the bad stuff too)! Archives
